Hedgespun Merit Empty Hedgespun Merit

Hedgespinning is not something that I see my toon immediately diving into, but I could see him making a crude attempt at some point in the future. I assume we are using the RAW from RoS, but I was wondering if anyone was interested in a house ruled Hedgespun merit instead?

I always found the RoS hedgespun rules a bit baffling, so I made up my own to try and simplify things. First off, Hedgespun Gear would be a separate merit from Token and only a single success is necessary to create a hedgespun "Trinket", or 0-dot Hedgespun Token, which does not cost any XP to purchase. Otherwise, the hedgespinning rules are pretty much the same for the rolls to craft hedgespun weapons and raiment(3 suxx per dot). All hedgespun equipment would possess the standard stats of their mundane equivalent and each dot purchased in the Hedgespun merit would add one of the following benefits:
+1 equipment bonus to a particular type of roll(similar to a skill specialty).
+1 to a weapon's specific type of damage.
+1 to Defense versus a specific type of attack.
+1 to general or ballistic Armor(reflected by the Mask).
+2 to Initiative.
+2 to Speed.
+1 to Durability.
Reduce Durability of target by -1.
Change weapon's base damage from Bashing to Lethal(reflected by the Mask).

I'd say no on defense being 1 for 1. It's basically two dots of power for a single background point. Rather than trying to track half dots I'd just remove it. Or require it to be a specific defense instead of general. With general defense being 2for1. It's also because it's already possible to stack defense outside of this merit and this could make it impossible to deal with.

I think I will just make it so that you can still buy it 1 for 1, but it works like the armor one: you have to designate a specific thing it defends against. The rest I have no problem with.

Hmmm. Now that I think about it, I actually really like the idea of specifying the type of attack for both the damage and Defense bonuses.
